1. Call for PhD talks at the SSAA General Assembly
During the general assembly, held friday 19 October 2012 at the ETH
in Zurich, some time will be reserved for short oral presentations of
PhD talks.
To apply, persons defending their PhD in 2011 or 2012, are
invited to send a title + short abstract to the Secretary
before 22 august 2012.
The program will include talks on GAIA (L. Eyer, UniGE) and ALMA
(L. Testi, ESO), and talks from two recently named professors
(A. Refregier, ETHZ; C. Charbonnel, UniGE).
The final program of the assembly will be circulated in September
and posted on the SSAA Website.

2. 2nd call for “Astronomy Outreach” projects 2012
This is an additional call for “Astronomy Outreach” projects
in 2012 to be funded by the SSAA (up to 5000 CHF).
Funding is possible for diverse outreach projects, including support
for exhibitions, the preparation of material for schools, the
organisation of events, and alike.
SSAA members, researchers from the Swiss astronomical institutes,
or institutional members can apply. Projects will be funded on a
competitive basis. Please send a brief project description and your
budget request to daniel.schaerer∂unige.ch.
The deadline for the call is: september 1, 2012.

3. Saas-Fee courses: update
* 2012 “Dynamics of Young Star Clusters & Associations”:

* 2013 “Star formation in galaxy evolution: connecting numerical models
to reality”, 11-16 March 2013, Villars-sur-Ollon.

The course website with further information will be announced shortly.
* 2014: The selection of the course will be done at the General Assembly
in Zurich. We look forward to receiving interesting proposals. If possible
please contact the SSAA secretary in advance.

4. 50 years ESO – 30 years Swiss participation
The celebration of “50 years ESO – 30 years Swiss participation”
will be held friday 5 october, 2012 at 15:00 at the University
of Berne. The invitation and program will be sent to all SSAA members.
